Yesterday my eldest daughter, Emma age 9, wanted to go running with me. We started trail running together back in Boulder, CO this spring, but hadn’t been out since we moved to Javea, Spain. Needless to say I was totally excited about the prospect of sharing my love of running with her. Emma’s interest piqued again after I ran a short 5k race this past Sunday. She decided it looked like a ton of fun and wanted to run it too. So I guess the training has started as of yesterday.
Around 9:30am we left the villa and did a 1/2 mile warmup by walking downhill, then jogged 2 miles in les Valls at an 11:00/mile pace (with a brief walking break at Mile 1), then finished with a “cool down” by walking 1/2 mile back up el Montgo. Emma did fantastic! She was hot, tired, sweaty and thirsty (even after drinking both Amphipods on my belt). Her legs were “noodlely” she said. But the smile on her face and the desire to do it again told me she had a great time.
I can’t tell you how much fun it was! Doing something alone with your kids. Teaching them something you care about and that will last a lifetime. Enjoying 1 on 1 time together to talk (in between the heavy pants). I really hope she keeps it up and makes this a habit. She’s got me addicted!

I just realized it was Scott who was doing the trail running with Emma! Didn’t realize that until I saw the picture! I used to go on jogs with my dad when I was a little girl and have fond memories of those times. I bet Emma will always remember these special times just with you!
Hi everyone, thanks for reading! We are going to the beach today to do some snorkeling (last trip to the beach before school starts this Tuesday). Emma’s swimming has really improved this summer to the point she can now handle the ocean.
