Yesterday I turned the grand old age of 42. I received a bunch of ecards and happy birthday wishes from friends and family. It felt wonderful – thank you so much everyone for thinking of me! One greeting in particular hit home. It’s a link (thanks Bob!) to a fantastic song on You Tube. Click through and have a listen to Jimmy Buffet’s Trip Around the Sun.
I celebrated here in Spain twice. On Friday night we had a joint birthday party with our new friends that live a few blocks away. Their oldest daughter, who has become close friends already with the girls, turned 12. It was a leisurely evening of wine, food and friendship. Dee cooked a wonderful meal of mussels (in a tomato, onion & garlic broth) accompanied by Uncle Steve & Aunt Victoria’s “Super Secret Spaghetti” (psst…don’t tell anyone…it’s lemon zest & olive oil), and some homemade, rustic peach pie and ice cream. Yum! The evening was topped off with some Cuban cigars. Couldn’t have been better.
Then last night our family went out for sushi…not a food you would expect to find here on the Costa Blanca. But, it was very fresh fish and a nice change of pace from the ubiquitous Spanish cafeterias. The kids really enjoyed the salmon sashimi and tekka maki (tuna rolls).
Muchas gracias mi familia!
